The group that used only the oil blend showed a decrease in 14 points. The group that used a combination of medications and oil blend showed a 36-point drop.

Their diastolic blood pressure also improved dramatically: a 12-point decrease in the group that took medication, 11 points in those who tried the oil blend, and 24 points in the group that used the combination.

But here is the most interesting part of the research—the oils did something that the medications failed to do!

They caused a drop in LDL cholesterol level by about 26 percent and a 9.5 percent increase in HDL level. No such effect was observed in those who took only the medication.

It is believed that all the beneficial effects are due to the healthy fatty acids and antioxidants present in the oils, such as sesamin, sesamol, sesamolin, and oryzanol.

According to Pauling, we have full control of our cardiovascular health. Stroke and heart attacks can be eliminated, prevented, and cured by the proper use of vitamin C and lysine (an essential amino acid).

He explained that besides harmful LDL cholesterol, there is another subtype of cholesterol called lipoprotein A (LPA) that causes most arterial inflammation.

In another study, researchers found that those who had positive social interactions in the past 10 minutes usually had lower blood pressure readings on average, based on measurements.

Compared with those who did not meditate, those who meditated were 65 percent less likely to have high cholesterol, 70 percent less likely to have diabetes, 76 percent less likely to have a stroke, 86 percent less likely to have high blood pressure, and 51 percent less likely to have coronary artery disease.

This was after they ensured that other cardiovascular risk factors like age, gender, race, body mass index, marital status, cigarette smoking, sleeping duration, and depression did not influence their results. They did not have information on alcohol consumption, which can also be a heart disease risk factor.

There are, however, two problems with meditation: a) most people don’t stick to meditation routines, and b) they’re not focused on lowering blood pressure.

For their study, the researchers analyzed the information of 1,845 African-American participants in the Jackson Heart Study, a study that investigates cardiovascular disease among African Americans in the tri-county area of Jackson, Mississippi. All participants were between ages 21 and 85.

All participants presented at the clinic for three visits: first between 2000 and 2004, then between 2005 and 2008, and again between 2009 and 2013.

During the first visit, the participants reported the level of discrimination from which they suffered. They also reported their demographic information such as age, sex, education level, and socioeconomic status.

During the first and the two follow-up visits, the researchers performed a detailed clinical examination to measure the participants’ blood pressure and the factors that put them at risk of high blood pressure to ensure that the latter element would not interfere with the findings.

None of the participants had hypertension during the first visit, and they were classified as having hypertension during the follow-up period if they took blood pressure-lowering medication, if they had a systolic blood pressure score of higher than 140 mmHg, or if they had a diastolic blood pressure score higher than 90 mmHg.

During this follow-up period, 52 percent of the participants developed hypertension, with lifetime discrimination playing a clear role.

Compared with those who reported low levels of lifetime discrimination, those who reported medium levels were 49 percent more likely to develop hypertension in the subsequent period.

The scientists attributed the conclusion to the stress that discrimination caused and the well-known link between stress and hypertension.

Regardless of whether discrimination is the cause of a particular person’s stress, this study again proves that stress is one of the main contributors to high blood pressure.

After the subjects consumed the drinks, the scientists used an electrocardiogram to measure their subject’s electrical heart activity. They also repeatedly measured blood pressure from their arms and aortas.

A whole six hours after consuming the drinks, the energy drink group had much higher diastolic and systolic blood pressure than the control drink group.

But the real problem was with the electrical activity in their hearts.

Those who consumed the energy drinks had a corrected QT interval that was 10 ms longer than that of the caffeinated water drinkers.

Your QT interval is the amount of time it takes for your heart’s lower chambers to generate the next heartbeat; in other words, the gap between the electrical impulse that caused the previous beat and the new electrical impulse that causes the next beat.

Since medication that modifies the corrected QT interval by 6 ms must carry a warning on the label, having energy drinks freely available that alter it by 10 ms is quite alarming.

Increasing or decreasing the intervals between these electrical impulses can cause potentially deadly heart arrhythmias, or irregular heartbeats.

Since the researchers made sure the caffeine levels of the two drinks were identical, the problem is clearly with other ingredients in the energy drinks, some of them very difficult to pinpoint.

Throughout the study, the researchers closely monitored the blood pressure of study participants. The results showed that the average diastolic blood pressure measurement was reduced by 4.3% and that the average systolic blood pressure reading dropped by 3.5%.

According to the study authors, none of the participants gained extra weight from daily potato consumption.

Researchers discovered that certain compounds found in potatoes have a similar effect as the better-known ACE inhibitors, a group of leading blood pressure-lowering medications, have on the body.

Furthermore, the researchers were able to identify in potatoes a unique group of phytochemicals, which also are found in spinach, Brussels sprouts, and broccoli. The authors of the study believe that these unique phytochemicals also played an important role in blood pressure reduction.

The study was done using whole potatoes cooked in the microwave with skins, without oils or any other types of fats added.

A new study published in The World Journal of Cardiovascular Diseases suggests that high blood pressure is caused by one specific mineral deficiency.

2) Focus on the place where your ribs meet your tummy, as you inhale slowly. You may count slowly to six as you inhale.

3) Hold your breath for a couple of seconds before exhaling slowly (count slowly to eight while exhaling).

4) Then pause breathing again for a couple of seconds before repeating steps 2–4 for a few minutes.

They followed the offspring of these rats to observe the effects of these chemicals on their blood pressure. After the rats reached adulthood, the researchers implanted devices to measure the rat’s blood pressure for 11 weeks.

During the 11 weeks, the researchers observed that those rats exposed to any of the three chemical types had substantially higher systolic and diastolic blood pressure than those only given the saline.

Daytime systolic pressure was high in the BPA group, and diastolic pressure was high in the BPS and BPF groups. Heart rate increased in all groups, especially in the BPS group.

This means that it is important to avoid these substitute chemicals while pregnant if you want your children to grow up without this potential heart complication—but avoiding plastic is easier said than done.

Research seems to show these chemicals have the same effect on people of all ages, maybe especially elderly who are the most vulnerable for high blood pressure.

When they examined the mice’s gut bacteria, they found that the two groups had very different types of bacteria.

To investigate the relationship between gut bacteria and blood pressure in more depth, they implanted the gut bacteria of the low and high fiber mice into germ-free mice, which had been raised in an isolator to prevent them from developing any of their own gut microbiome.

The germ-free mice that received bacteria from the fiber-deficient mice developed high blood pressure, while those who received bacteria from the fiber-consuming mice did not.

But why gut bacteria?

Our gut bacteria help digest and ferment fiber, the process during which certain metabolites are produced. These metabolites, according to the authors, activate immune cells that protect against high blood pressure.

While the recommendation is to eat approximately 30 grams of fiber per day, researchers estimate the average Westerner only consumes around 5 grams.

Researchers obtained the blood pressure records of 342,457 patients from 2,178 dialysis centers in the United States.

In addition, they obtained UV radiation and temperature data for each clinic’s location from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

They then calculated a monthly average blood pressure, a monthly average UV index score, and an average monthly temperature. This enabled them to find the relationships between the variables.

As they expected, they found that their subjects had 3 mmHg lower systolic blood pressure during the sunny season.

The authors cited previous studies that proved a 3-mmHg systolic blood pressure reduction could decrease cardiovascular events by 10 percent.

When they separated temperature and UV exposure, they found that each contributed to about half of the overall effect.

So, it isn’t just vitamin D from UV that lowers blood pressure, it’s also the warm weather.

Regarding the risk of skin cancer, the authors cited numerous studies that proved that it was sunburn that caused skin cancer, and not regular exposure to sunlight.
