Want to control blood sugar level? Go Paleo! Paleo diet, also called the Caveman diet or Stone Age diet, is a very popular diet plan that has an almost 100% success rate.

The concept of Paleo diet was first introduced in 1975, but it was after Loren Cordain published The Paleo Diet (2002) that this diet became popular.

Paleo Diet is based on the principle that eating non-packaged and fresh produce, like humans did in the paleolithic age, can help ward off all 21st century health issues such as obesity, diabetes, insulin resistance, heart problems, etc.

Moreover, unlike other diets, the Paleo diet emphasizes the importance of following a healthy lifestyle in order to lose weight.

Control blood sugar level with the Paleo diet can be really simple if you understand it properly. So, let’s start with that.

What Is the Paleo Diet All About?

Paleo diet’s concept is simple – eat natural and healthy produce and eliminate processed and unhealthy foods.

This diet will take you to days when there were no GM foods, no hormone-fed meat, and no junk food. You will eat grass-fed meat, fresh vegetables, local fruits, and healthy fats.

The Paleo diet is designed in such a way that it will become a habit to eat only natural foods and you will automatically let go of all your unhealthy eating habits.

Of course, it’s easier said than done because we are so dependent on frozen, processed, and junk food.

Paleo Diet Food to Eat List to Control Blood Sugar Level

Vegetables – Broccoli, cauliflower, cucumber, tomato, turnip, parsnips, scallions, onion, carrot, cabbage, sweet potato, okra, eggplant, zucchini, pumpkin, bottle gourd, ridge gourd, snake gourd, squash, etc.

Beverages – Coconut water, freshly pressed fruit and vegetable juice, and vegetables and fruit smoothies.

Paleo Diet Foods to Avoid List to Control Blood Sugar Level

Vegetable – Potato

Grains – Eliminate all kinds of grains, as in the Paleolithic age there was no provision for cooking grains.

Protein – Avoid all legumes and grain-fed meat.

Dairy – Avoid all dairy and milk products.

Fats & Oils – Butter, margarine, ghee, and animal fat.

Beverages – Packaged fruit and vegetable juices, soda, diet soda, alcohol in unlimited amounts, buttermilk, and energy drinks.

Why would someone eat a Paleo diet?

Many people who eat paleolithic diets are looking to return to their roots and eat more healthily.

Advocates argue that humans were able to live and thrive on the diet for 40,000 years and that modern lifestyle diseases could be prevented by returning to paleo foods.

People with diabetes can attain several benefits from the paleo diet, improving their health and reducing the risk of developing health complications in later life.

How does a paleo diet work to control blood sugar level?

How does a paleo diet work? Because most foods and ingredients on the diet are low in carbohydrate, the need for insulin is reduced within the body.

This can help to prevent insulin resistance and reduce the risk of developing health problems such as high blood glucose levels and heart disease.

There are no fixed macronutrient ratios on a paleo diet, but paleo diet sources tend to agree that macros should be are around 20% carbs, 30% protein and 50% fat.

There is less need for strict portion control with paleo foods than there is for low-fat diets. However, be mindful not to over-indulge on foods such as fruit, nuts or excessive meat.

Paleo Diet Benefits

  • You will eat clean by not consuming foods that are loaded with hormones, additives, artificial color, and flavor, etc.
  • Red meat will provide your body with iron.
  • Veggies, fruits, nuts, and oils are anti-inflammatory in nature.
  • You will be more active.
  • You will lose weight slowly but will be able to maintain it for a longer term.

Additional benefits include greater energy levels and improved heart health

However, this diet can have certain disadvantages.

Paleo Diet Disadvantages

  • This diet is very difficult for vegetarians and vegans as legumes are excluded from this diet.
  • Dairy products are excluded in this diet, which is a good source of calcium.
  • Buying grass-fed meat and organic food can be expensive.
  • Completely avoiding grains can deprive you of certain vitamins and minerals.

Why Do I Have Diabetes, What Are the Main Diabetes Causes?

Why Do I Have Diabetes, What Are the Main Diabetes Causes? Diabetes causes range from your genetic make-up, family health history, ethnicity, fitness and environmental factors. There is no single diabetes causes that fits every type of diabetes. This is because the diabetes causes can vary depending on the individual and the type of diabetes. For example; the causes of type 1 diabetes vary considerably from the causes of gestational diabetes. Similarly, the causes of type 2 diabetes are distinct from the causes of type 1 diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes causes

Type 1 diabetes is caused by the immune system destroying the cells in the pancreas that make insulin. This causes diabetes by way of leaving the body without enough insulin to regulate your blood sugar level

This is called an autoimmune response, or autoimmune cause, due to the fact the body is attacking itself.

There may be no specific diabetes causes, but the following triggers may be involved:

  • viral or bacterial infection
  • chemical toxins inside food
  • unidentified factor causing autoimmune reaction

Underlying genetic disposition may also be a type 1 diabetes cause.

Type 2 diabetes causes

Type 2 diabetes causes are generally multifactorial – more than one cause of diabetes is involved here. Frequently, the maximum overwhelming factor is a family history of type 2 diabetes.

That is the most likely reason for having type 2 diabetes.

There is a wide range of risk factors for type 2 diabetes, all or any of which increase the chances of developing the condition.

These include:

  • obesity
  • a sedentary way of life
  • unhealthy eating habit – Saturated and trans fats, processed foods and immoderate carbohydrate having all been mooted as possible diabetes causes
  • increasing age – The risk of developing type 2 diabetes begins to rise significantly at about age 45, and rises considerably after age 65.
  • ethnicity – Certain groups, such as African Americans, Native Americans, Hispanic Americans, South Asians and Asian Americans, have a greater risk of developing type 2 diabetes than non-Hispanic whites.

Other type 2 diabetes causes which include pregnancy or illness.

Gestational diabetes causes

Gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes that in particular occurs at some point of pregnancy. During the second and 0.33 trimesters of pregnancy, with requirements for insulin already increasing, hormones secrete by the placenta can cause insulin being less powerful.

If the mother’s body struggles to provide enough insulin, blood sugar degrees can rise resulting in gestational diabetes.

The causes of diabetes during pregnancy also known as gestational diabetes continue to be unknown. However, there are some of hazard factors that increase the possibilities of growing this condition:

  • own family history of gestational diabetes
  • obese or overweight
  • being afflicted by polycystic ovary syndrome
  • bearing a heavy baby weighing over 9lb

Causes of gestational diabetes can also be associated with ethnicity – some ethnic groups have a higher chance of gestational diabetes.

Other diabetes causes

There are a wide range of different ability diabetes causes. These consist of the following:

  • Pancreatitis or pancreatectomy as a cause of diabetes. Pancreatitis is understood to boom the chance of growing diabetes, as is a pancreatectomy.
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). One of the root causes of PCOS is weight problems-related insulin resistance, which might also increase the risk of pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes.
  • Cushing’s syndrome. This syndrome is due to over-production of the cortisol hormone in the body, which serves to increase blood sugar level. An over-abundance of cortisol can trigger diabetes.
  • Patients with glucagonoma might also experience diabetes due to imbalance between the level of insulin production and glucagon production.
  • Steroid induced diabetes (steroid diabetes) is a very uncommon type of diabetes that takes place due to prolonged use of glucocorticoid therapy.

Summary – Best Diabetic Diet

This post discusses about the hard facts about diabetes, what causes diabetes and what foods to eat or avoid in the best diabetic diet.  There are 2 video clips about the dangerous foods to avoid and the top 10 foods to have in the best diabetic diet.

Cold Hard Facts about Diabetes

World Diabetes Day, the world’s largest diabetes awareness campaign, is focused on Women and Diabetes. According to the International Diabetes Federation, 199 million women have type-2 diabetes, and that is projected to increase to 313 million by 2040.

In fact, diabetes is a leading cause of death among women. And that’s a scary fact. Diabetes has always been a hot topic for me, because it’s a worldwide epidemic that affects everyone, not just women: It’s estimated that 552 million people could have type-2 diabetes in the next two decades.

Currently, half of the U.S. population is diabetic or pre-diabetic.  It’s more important now, more than ever, to get the word out on what causes type-2 diabetes, and what you can do to prevent and control it.

What Causes Type-2 Diabetes?

There are two main types of diabetes: type 1 and type 2. In addition, there is gestational diabetes, which occurs during pregnancy in some women when hormone changes prevent insulin from working properly, but the condition usually resolves after childbirth.

Meanwhile, both types 1 and 2 are chronic diseases that affect how your body regulates blood sugar, or glucose, which is the fuel that feeds your body’s cells. Insulin is needed to make this happens.

People with type-1 diabetes can’t produce insulin at all, People with type-2 diabetes can’t control their insulin levels and eventually may not produce insulin at all. This starts with insulin resistance, and it may happen gradually over time. While type-1 diabetes can’t be prevented or reversed, type-2 diabetes can.

The Best Diabetic Diet for Preventing and Controlling Type-2 Diabetes

There continues to be a compelling research-backed argument that shows that cutting back on carbs has the greatest effect on regulating blood sugar levels, because when broken down through digestion, carbs boost the body’s blood sugar levels, which prompts the release of insulin.

In other words, the more carbs you eat, especially processed carbs and anything containing white flour or sugar, the more they mess with your blood sugar levels. Add in weight gain and inactivity, and this continual abuse on your body leads to prediabetes and possibly type-2 diabetes.

Typically, once you get to this point, doctors tend to prescribe medication that helps manage your blood sugar levels, but I’m a big believer that better health through nutrition, not drugs, is possible. This is why a low carb diet like Atkins may help prevent and control type-2 diabetes.

In fact, Atkins may be the best diabetic diet because it eliminates the huge amounts of processed carbs that have become so easily accessible here and around the world, and focuses on a way of eating that features high-fiber carbohydrates that have the least impact on blood sugar, like colorful fresh vegetables; nuts; some low- glycemic fruits, such as berries; coupled with protein and healthy fats; is effective and sustainable in managing type-2 diabetes.

According to the American Diabetes Association, the best diabetic diet should include

  • Proteins – beans, nuts, poultry, eggs, oily fish such as salmon, mackerel, tuna, and sardines
  • Fruits and Vegetables – berries, sweet potatoes, non-starchy vegetables such as asparagus, broccoli, collard greens, kale, and okra
  • Dairy – low or non-fat milk, low or non-fat yogurt
  • Grains – whole grains, such as brown rice and whole-wheat pasta

The Best Diabetic Diet should exclude the following:

  • processed grains, such as white rice or white pasta
  • fruits with added sweeteners, including apple sauce, jam, and some canned fruits
  • full-fat dairy
  • fried foods or foods high in trans fats or saturated fats
  • foods made with refined flour
  • any food with a high glycemic load

What Are The Causes Of Tonsil Stones?

What Are The Causes Of Tonsil Stones? Although the exact causes of tonsil stones are often difficult to determine, tonsil stones often occur when hardened matter builds up in small pockets on the tonsils' surface.

Many individuals develop small, hard lumps on the surface of their tonsils. These pale-colored masses are commonly referred to as tonsil stones or tonsilloliths, and they can lead to irritation and other unpleasant side effects in some patients.

Although the exact causes of tonsil stones are often difficult to determine, tonsil stones often occur when hardened matter builds up in small pockets on the tonsils’ surface.

This build-up of debris is the result of harmful microorganisms, dead cells, mucus, and food particles accumulating around the back of the throat near the tonsils.

The tonsils are two oval-shaped lymphatic organs located on either side of the back of your throat. Each tonsil has an irregular surface with uneven crevices called the tonsillar crypts.

While the tonsils function in the trapping of harmful microorganisms to protect the throat, respiratory tract, and gastrointestinal tract, they can also become clogged with excessive amounts of other materials.

Over time, these substances are broken down by salivary enzymes, leaving hard, calcified deposits behind. If this accumulation happens, the debris can become concentrated in white formations along the tonsillar crypts.

Studies demonstrate a correlation between individuals with tonsil difficulties and chronic post-nasal drip.

Additionally, tonsil stones tend to occur most often in people who experience chronic inflammation in their tonsils or recurrent episodes of tonsillitis.

Causes of tonsil stones may be due to allergies which lead to tonsil-stone formation, as the persistent strain on your immune system can reduce your tonsils’ ability to remove foreign materials.

For some people, causes of tonsil stones may be due to diet. For example, consuming large amounts of dairy products stimulates mucus formation, which can make tonsil stones more likely.

Also, other causes of tonsil stones may be due to alcohol and tobacco usage which dries out the mouth and throat, reducing salivary effectiveness and making your mouth prone to infection.

Finally, poor oral hygiene is also associated with tonsil stones, as high levels of oral bacteria indicate a greater chance of oral-health problems.

Tonsil stones rarely create noticeable symptoms, as they are usually small and easily overlooked in most patients.

If these masses grow particularly large and become solidified, however, you may experience multiple symptoms, such as chronic bad breath, swollen tonsils, a perpetually sore throat, earaches, visible white debris at the back of your throat, and difficulty swallowing. If this is the case, see your doctor.

How to Treat Tonsilloliths In Children

How to Treat Tonsilloliths In Children - Tonsil stones, also known as tonsilloliths, are a common condition that affects many individuals worldwide. Although adults and adolescents are the most likely groups to develop tonsil stones, younger children may also experience the formation of tonsilloliths and suffer from related symptoms.

Tonsil stones, also known as tonsilloliths, are a common condition that affects many individuals worldwide. Although adults and adolescents are the most likely groups to develop tonsil stones, younger children may also experience the formation of tonsilloliths and suffer from related symptoms.

Tonsilloliths occur when bits of debris such as dead cellular materials, food particles, and foreign pathogens accumulate in the crevices of the palatine tonsils. These lymphatic organs are positioned on either side of the back of your throat.

The tonsils are responsible for defending the throat against harmful microorganisms and for filtering lymphatic fluid. A layer of pink mucosa covers the surface of the tonsils, containing pits and channels that are referred to as the tonsillar crypts.

When large amounts of debris and other substances accumulate in the tonsillar crypts, the resulting material can combine with saliva and begin to decay. The decaying material then calcifies into small, pale-colored tonsil stones.

Babies and small children rarely experience tonsil-stone formation. Those who do develop this condition may not demonstrate noticeable effects, as the majority of tonsil stones are small and asymptomatic.

However, if you notice that your child is suffering from a chronic sore throat, frequent earaches, pain or difficulty swallowing, or persistent bad breath, he or she may be experiencing problematic tonsil stones.

Tonsil stones are especially common for children who have repeated bouts of tonsillitis. This may contribute to more severe symptoms, since a child’s tonsil are very large in proportion to the size of his or her throat. As a child matures, however, his or her tonsils usually shrink.

If you suspect that your child may be suffering from tonsillitis or tonsil stones, see your family doctor or pediatrician for an oral examination. He or she can remove any visible tonsil stones and may provide an antibiotic to reduce bacterial inflammation.

Your doctor may also recommend that your child see an ear, nose, and throat specialist if his or her symptoms persist or worsen. Surgical treatment is almost never required for tonsil stones, but if the condition persists and causes concern, your doctor may recommend a tonsillectomy to prevent further complications and discomfort.
